President Sadyr Japarov participates in informal summit of Organization of Turkic States in Azerbaijan

AKIPRESS.COM – President Sadyr Japarov participated in the informal summit of the heads of state of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Shusha, Azerbaijan, on July 6, according to the presidential press service.
The head of state noted that climate change forecasts indicate a serious and growing threat unless measures are taken to combat climate change. He expressed confidence that Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of COP29 could advance the issues on the current agenda of the upcoming Conference, scheduled for November this year.
Sadyr Japarov emphasized the importance of signing an agreement on the establishment of a civil protection mechanism within the OTS, arguing that Kyrgyzstan is feeling the effects of global warming, namely the reduction of glacier areas, increasing periods of drought and low water levels, a rise in the number of natural disasters, and other impacts.
The president reported that Kyrgyzstan has been working for over 20 years to integrate mountain issues into the global agenda. At the initiative of the Kyrgyz side, a global Dialogue on Mountains and Climate Change was held in Bonn on June 5 this year within the framework of the SB60 Conference. To consolidate this Dialogue, the head of state proposed holding this event annually as part of the UN Framework Convention.
Sadyr Japarov also addressed the issues of effective and economical use of water resources. To solve these problems, Kyrgyzstan initiated the creation of a regional center in Bishkek in 2023 for the implementation of energy-saving and resource-saving technologies and called on OTS members to implement joint projects on renewable energy sources.
In his speech, the president noted that another priority for the country is interaction in the transport sector. The Kyrgyz side considers it important to further modernize and construct new transport routes crossing Central Asia.
The head of state reported that transport cooperation within the Organization is gaining momentum. In this context, Sadyr Japarov welcomed the signed Agreement on International Mixed Transport between the member states of the OTS and the Program of Interaction in the Transport Sector.
In conclusion, the President of Kyrgyzstan invited the participants to the next OTS summit, which will be held in Bishkek in October this year.
