The ‘People’s Front’ party of Azerbaijan has announced that it is boycotting the snap parliamentary elections to be held on September 1. Such a decision was made by the Supreme Council of the party.
“Considering that more than 300 political prisoners have not been released, the freedom of assembly is prohibited, the election commissions are under the full control of the authorities, it is impossible to control the voting process and vote counting, the free press has been destroyed, local independent observers are not allowed to observe the election. Besides, there is no competitive and fair electoral environment, we will boycott the extraordinary election of the Milli Majlis scheduled for September 1, 2024,” said the decision of the party’s Supreme Assembly.
In Azerbaijan, the acceptance of documents for the registration of candidates in the extraordinary elections of the parliament started on July 13, the process will continue until August 2. According to the Central Electoral Commission, 401 candidates have already been registered.
